MET TOURNEY RUNS THROUGH MAY 9

KEY LARGO, Florida Keys - The official Metropolitan South Florida Fishing Tournament runs through May 9, 2004. Established in 1935, the event typically attracts anglers from all over the world who register catches of virtually every South Florida fish species to earn certificates, plaques, pins and awards. Entry is free.

The tournament promotes releasing all fish while preserving the memory with photographs and certificates. Extra points are awarded for successfully releasing a catch, and only three of each species may be weighed in. The competitor with the most fish and most types of fish reaps more points than one with fewer but larger fish.

Visitors to the 11 southernmost counties of Florida are encouraged to participate in the Metropolitan South Florida Fishing Tournament if they intend to fish for any of the 37 qualifying species. At least 25 Met weigh stations are located at marinas, resorts and tackle shops throughout the Florida Keys.

For more information, call Dale Curmanskie, the Met's new executive director, at 305-233-5535, or visit the updated Web site at www.met-fish.org. To find out about area accommodations, call the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-822-1088 or 305-451-1414, or explore this Web site.
